Mpox
Mpox is an infection caused by a virus.
People with mpox often get a rash and may have other symptoms like fever, chills, and swollen lymph nodes.
How It’s Transmitted
Mpox can be transmitted through close or intimate contact with a person with mpox, direct contact with an infected animal, or contact with contaminated objects.
Some people can even spread mpox to others up to four days before their symptoms appear.
Mpox can be prevented by getting vaccinated.
Symptoms
Symptoms usually start within 21 days of exposure.
This can include a painful and/or itchy rash—which initially looks like pimples or blisters—on your hands, feet, chest, face, mouth or near the genitals, including penis, testicles, labia, vagina, and anus.
Other symptoms of mpox can include fever, chills, swollen lymph nodes, exhaustion, muscle and backaches, or headaches.
Treatment
While there’s no specific treatment for mpox, most people fully recover within 2 to 4 weeks without the need for medical treatment.
